IO Interactive has revealed more about 007 First LightIncluding the “different differences” between the bond gel and its Hitman series.
Talking with Techradar Gaming at Gamescom 2025, Franchise Art Director Rasmus Poulsen Discussed First light‘s original upcoming age history and how the game differs from Hitman Games for which the study is so well known.
“We saw online some of the performances that were holding around when it was announced that we should develop a 007 game. So it wasn’t, you know, a mystery for people,” Poulsen said. “And in this case, it wasn’t a mystery for us either, because of course we have been inspired by transplantation over the years for our previous games. And in that sense it was a clear order of our skill set and our ambition, actually in terms of how it is different.”
Compared to Hitmanexplained the developer, First light is a cinematic experience focusing on character and history, and although stealth action is a prominent feature of Bond Game, our playable character and how players will engage in the world very differently.
“Entering the shoes from this young bond in this original upcoming age story, which we have designed specifically for you, the players, it is clear that there are some different differences too, namely that you are a clearly good guy this time around versus one, let’s say, mildly seen an anti -hero, maybe even the bad guy in Hitman,” said Poulsen. “And of course, in that sense, there is quite a difference to the rules that you engage in the world with.”
As for why this story will contain a young bond, he explained that it was “a massive opportunity” for IOI to play with the idea of what a modern James Bond game is really for the first time since 2012.
“Of course, when you ask what he really is, what is DNA, the next question that arises is, yes, how did he come hit?” The developer continued. “And in that sense, for us, it is a wonderful opportunity to marry the audience’s journey into IP, just as it marries the journey with a young bond in the larger espionage world. So it allows us to really adapt the audience of games with Bond himself.”
007 First Light Start in 2026 to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
