12 More forfeiture in KP Rain Tragedies

At least 12 people were killed, and dozens were caused by damage such as a fresh spell of monsoon rains triggered flash flows and landslides in northern Pakistan on Sunday and raised the death toll to over 460 in less than two weeks.

Fresh damage was reported from various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which remained the hardest hit during the ongoing Monsun-Tryle Form.

Heavy storms and storming rain erupted in Dera Ismail Khan, leaving nine people dead – including women and children – and wounded more than 50.

Three children were also killed when the roof of their homes collapsed in remote DIR district, located near the border between Afghanistan, the rescue officials said.

Property damage was reported on a large scale while the power supply system collapsed.

A wall of Jamiat-Ul-Madina Mosque in Muryali also fell, although no losses occurred. In Dinpur, the house to Arsalan Baloch completely collapsed.

After the storm, an emergency was declared in hospitals and the wounded received medical help. Di Khan Commissioner Zafar-Ul-Ul-Islam Khattak appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary journeys during stormy weather and take precautions to prevent further loss of life.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also issued a flash flood and urban flood alarm for several KP districts after recent rain.

According to the alarm, the top districts – chitral, dir, swat, Shangla, buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad – as well as ordinary areas – Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi and Marran – could be affected.

It warned that low -lying areas of Peshawar, Nowshera and Marran remained at risk of flooding of cities, while heavy rainfall and wind storms can also cause lightning. It asked district administrations, police, rescue 1122 and all relevant institutions to keep aware and take precautions.

According to PDMA’s latest report, the rain and flash floods have left 406 people dead and 247 wounded in KP. Among the dead are 305 men, 55 women and 46 children; While the wounded include 179 men, 38 women and 30 children.

The floods have a total of 3,526 houses – 2,945 partially and 577 completely destroyed. Buner remains the hardest hit district with 337 deaths reported, while Swabi has reported 46 deaths so far.
