Islamabad ‘:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government has decided to spend 190 million pounds or RS54 billion to build a public sector university and schools originally given to Pakistan by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA). This money became a key element in the conviction of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The government has chosen to use these frozen funds for the noble reason for giving education in new technologies.
Imran Khan’s government had previously adjusted RS54 billion against private obligations, a decision that led to his 14-year conviction in the high-profile al-Qadir Trust case.
The government sources told The Express Pakinomist that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the use of the funds for educational purposes, and the Supreme Court in Pakistan, who is the custodian of the funds, has also given his consent.
According to the government’s decision, the 190 million pounds will be awarded for the construction of the crooked university in new technologies in Islamabad as well as schools in the country’s poorest and most remote areas.
The initiative from Daanish Schools was launched by Shehbaz Sharif in 2010 in Punjab to provide modern education and recreational facilities for children from under-privileged families.
After the 18th constitutional amendment, education is a provincial subject, but the federal government has decided to construct these crooked schools in the backward areas.
The criteria for eligibility for admission to schools that have died or the family are of the poorest, according to Benazir Income Support Card Registry. Seats are equally distributed between boys and girls, provided they meet the recording criteria.
The funds will be used to establish “Advanced Research University with a endowment to [ensure] Self -carrying skills and the balance [will be allocated to build] A couple of Daanish schools in the backward areas, “said Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister of Planning while confirming the development.
The Prime Minister has made the Ahsan Iqbal leader of a 10-member expert committee who will complete lists of schools and programs in new technologies.
In 2019, NCA in the United Kingdom reached a conciliation agreement worth £ 190 million. The 190 million pounds or RS54 billion were not back to the federal government at the time. Instead, the money had been transferred directly to the Supreme Court’s report.
This year, the right of responsibility Judged Imran Khan for 14 years and his wife Bushra Bibi for seven years in the al-Qadir Trust case. Shortly after the verdict, Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar had said that the money recovered by NCA would be used for the nation’s welfare.
The Supreme Court’s registrar was the main operator of the designated account, which is changed to take control of these funds, the government sources said.
The funds will not be used through the public sector development program. Instead, a special vehicle is created to make sure that these funds do not lapse at the end of the financial year and remain available for educational purposes.
The Prime Minister has also instructed to form an independent supervisory committee to ensure transparency in the exploitation of these funds, the sources said.
Shehbaz Sharif will lead the 11-member management committee. Its members are Minister of Planning, Minister of Economic Affairs, Minister of Law, Minister of Federal Education, President of Higher Education, Secretary Information Technology, Secretary Financing, Secretary Education, Secretary Planning and Chairman of Capital Development Authority.
The Supervisory Committee will provide strategic guidelines and define the university’s mission, vision and goals. It will also oversee infrastructure development, including CDA’s soil accessibility and will approve the government model.
The PM-led committee will also oversee the legislation for the establishment of the university and monitor its construction within 18 months, the sources said.
The Ahsan Iqbal-led expert committee consists of economists and educators and will end lists of schools and programs in new technologies.
The Expert Committee will provide the roadmap for academic programs, the cardlist research priorities and ensure cooperation with the international centers of expertise for exchange programs.
The sources said the university will act as a trust in operational independence. A hospital of 20 beds will also be part of the quirky university, according to the Prime Minister’s decision.
The Ministry of Planning has also been instructed to ensure timely approval of PCs at the crooked schools.
