- AI agents gain access to credentials in their workflows
- This may cause credentials to be introduced into LLMs without user knowledge
- 1password has created a safe solution to this problem
AI agents become productive across industries and give employees an easy way to automate tasks through designated workflows, but to work they often require credentials to access systems.
This requires human interaction to enter login information and passwords, which slows down both the AI agent and human workers. As a result, AI agents are provided credentials through agent browsers.
This has created a new problem is created, especially with AI agents in headless agent browsers, as credentials can be exposed to the underlying large linguistic model – but 1password, one of the best password managers, believes it may have come up with a solution.
Safe Agent Auto -Auto
1password has developed Secure Agentic Autofill, which allows AI agents to use credentials within their workflow without ever being able to see or handle the credentials.
Instead, credentials are stored within the 1Password browser extension and can be requested by an AI agent. The browser extension will fill the credentials on behalf of the AI agent, which provides greater security within the workflow without affecting efficiency.
Secure Agentic Autofill uses a new protocol that uses an encrypted connection between the device and the browser extension using the noise frame. The password is requested by the AI agent, a human approval by the credentials, and the AI agent continues on its workflow.
1password has collaborated with browser base to provide Safe Agentic Autofill through a new browser Automation Workflow UI. Like the AI agent, the browser base connection has zero access to the credentials stored in the 1Password browser extension and all requests require human approval.
Ultimately, Safe Agentic Auto filling prevents credentials from spreading across agents, logs and prayers or distributed in areas that identity access tools cannot see.
By using 1password, credentials can also be controlled, added and revoked without fear that a password may have been leaked in the far corners of an LLM.
