2.9 m Afghan citizens who are resident of Pakistan

Islamabad:

The main commissioner of Afghan refugees assessed the standing committee for states and border regions (safron) in the Senate that approx. 2.9 million Afghan citizens were currently residing in Pakistan, of whom 1.4 million were registered, while 0.7 million had been unregistered.

The main commissioner presented the empirical data on Afghan refugees during the Safron Committee Meeting on Friday, led by Senator Jan Muhammad Buledi in Parliament’s House.

The Commissioner provided extensive briefing on the current humanitarian assistance provided to Afghan refugees in Pakistan, covering areas such as shelter, food, water, sanitation, education and healthcare.

The committee members were further informed about Refugee -Berated and Hosting Area Program (RAHA). They were informed that development projects during Raha were stopped in 2024 due to a lack of funding.

Senators Saadia Abbasi and Syed Masroor Ahsan emphasized on mobilizing international support for financing the projects for Afghan refugees and proper utilization of funds.

The committee imposed a detailed report on the Raast project.
