2025 NBA Play-in Tournament Highlights: Warriors, Magic Clinch Playoff Berths

The 2025 NBA Play-in Tournament tilted Tuesday, and although both # 7 seeds advanced, the results were far from predetermined, especially at the Western Conference, where the Golden State Warriors just hardly surpassed Memphis Grizzlies.

Here is a Performance of Day 1 of the Play-in Tournament:

Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry threw their arms around each other and embraced.

Playoff Jimmy in all its brilliance on the big stage took all the pressure from Curry, and now they take the Golden State Warriors to the playoffs.

“I know I want to win a championship so he needs, his what, this would be # 5?” Said Butler.

Butler had 38 points, seven rebounds and six assists of creating opportunities at both ends at every chance Curry scored 37, and Warriors won the seventh seed at the Western Conference by beating Memphis Grizzlie’s 121-116 Tuesday night in Play-in Tournament.

Curry knocked down a baseline 3-pointer with 1:50 to go and one from the left wing with one minute on the clock then converted four free throw in the closed five seconds.

Golden State is now heading for a best series with the first round of Rockets, beginning with Game 1 on Sunday in Houston.

“It took 83 games, but we’re just where we want to be, which is back in the playoffs and we have a chance,” said coach Steve Kerr.

After a couple of free kicks with Curry with 5.4 seconds left, Grizzlies had one last chance-but Santi Aldama could not inbound the ball before a violation of five seconds.

Desmond Bane scored 30 points and yes Morant 22 for Memphis, who goes home to play Friday against the winner of Mavericks-Kings matchup on Wednesday night in Sacramento to determine the eighth playoffs.

With grizzlies on a roll midway through the third, Butler grabbed the speed back with a steal and thump. He shot 12 for 20 in another equal 30-point performance and his highest scoring game since he joined Warriors at the trade deadline. He made 12 out of 18 free throw – after being 63 out of 68 from the line during the previous eight games in April.

Morant went down hard to roll his right ankle as he stepped onto Buddy Hield’s foot and was buried by Quinten Post with 4:25 back in the third, but got up and finished the three-point game to pull Grizzlies within 82-81.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Scored 18 points, while Zach Edey contributed 14 points, 17 rebounds and hit two free throw with 14.3 seconds left.

Curry had eight rebounds, four assists and shot 9 for 22, while regularly swarming by Scotty Pippen Jr. before heading out late.

Curry had turned on Grizzlies for 52 points on their home floor in a 134-125 win on April 1, and Grizzlies made him a highest priority this time-so-butler took responsibility.

“He’s different,” said Daymond Green.

He led four just scored possessions to set Warriors up 31-18 late in the first quarter-what helped Gary Payton II’s cutting dunk, dishing to send to a 3 and make a 3-point shot and three-point game itself. Butler showed no signs of being affected by a tender left quadriceps muscle after he took a knee from Kawhi Leonard on Sunday.

Warriors hoped to avoid this extra game, but lost over time to Clippers in the final in regular season on Sunday for their third home win in the last week.

Curry, Green and Warriors had been 0-3 in play-in games during performances in 2021 and last year. Grizzlies removed them at the Chase Center with a 117-112 overtime victory in ’21.

Orlando Magic Stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner entered Tuesday’s NBA-Play-in game on average a combined 60-plus point against Atlanta Hawks this season. But when the two struggled to find their violation, Magic’s bench stepped up and led them to a 120-95 victory.

Cole Anthony came from the bench to lead Orlando with 26 points and six assists, while Anthony Black scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, and was a game high plus-34 in 28 minutes. With the victory, the magic will move on to play in a first round of playoff series against Boston Celtics, starting on Sunday in Boston.

After jumping out to an early double-digit lead, it looked as if the magic would sail into the 7-seed, but then Haukene stepped out of the half-time break. They cut the margin to 71-68 with three minutes back in the third quarter when Orlando’s violation got cold. It is common for the magic to have bad offensive stretches during games and it will be a problem that goes on. It lowered them almost Tuesday, but they kicked in gear and did not let Atlanta catch the lead before blewing the hawks out of the water in the fourth quarter.

The magic tends to compensate for their lack of insult with one of the best defense in the NBA. It was exhibited on Tuesday when they held Hawks to 38.1% shooting from the field and 19% from 3-point reach. While Trae Young ended with 28 points, he was an ineffective 8-of-21, and the magic came under his skin to the point that he kicked the ball in anger over chucting the ball to an official who earned him a few technical mistakes and a draft in the fourth quarter.

Banchero ended with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, but Orlando needs more from him if it wants any chance against Boston.
