Karachi:
A 29-year-old man has died at a private hospital in Karachi due to Naegleria Fowleri, a rare but deadly brain-eating amoeba. This marks the fifth Naegleria-related death in Sindh so far this year.
According to the Sindh Health Department, the late resident of District was central and began showing symptoms on September 7. He was admitted to the hospital on September 11, but died the same day.
Laboratory studies conducted on September 12 confirmed the presence of Naegleria Fowleri. Health officials said the victim had not engaged in any recreational water activities, such as swimming, and had only used wiring for drinking and bathing.
Medical experts have repeated concerns about the rising threat of naegleria in Sindh and has called on the public to use boiled or properly chlorinated water. They also emphasized the importance of chlorination in all water storage facilities to prevent further infections.
