A police report submitted to court has revealed that a total of 32 fours have been registered against former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi throughout the province.
The report was presented in response to a petition filed by Elahi and sought details of both old and new cases against him. According to the Punjab police, 15 cases have been registered in Lahore, including those related to the riots on May 9, 4 in Faisalabad, 1 in Attock, 1 in Gujranwala and 11 in Rawalpindi.
During the hearing, Justice Nadeem noted that the case should be closed. Elahi’s lawyer, however, opposed and argued that the police report was inaccurate and contrary to the facts.
The advisor requested time to present additional arguments, and maintained that he had strong reservations over the given details. Accepted the request, the court postponed the hearing until March 10 for further arguments. In his petition, Elahi claimed that the cases against him were politically motivated, aimed at harassing and humbling him despite his alleged lack of involvement.
He also said that his repeated requests for information on pending cases and investigations had gone unanswered.
Elahi called on the right to order the relevant authorities to give him the complete details of eighty and queries to prevent unexpected arrests. The case will be taken up again in the next hearing.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism (ATC) expanded the temporary bail for PTI-Leder Musarrat Jamshed and her husband Jamshed Iqbal Cheema until March 22 in several cases related to the riots on May 9. ATC judge Manzer Ali Gill was chairman of the hearing on bail petitions from the couple who appeared in court at the end of their preliminary bail. Police stated the court that investigations on the cases had been completed and that the parets arrest was required.
