4 Nations Face-off: Team USA Falls to Sweden; set to Canada in title game

Team USA lost its first game in 4 Nations Face-off Monday night and fell to Sweden, 2-1, in TD Garden in Boston.

Despite the stain on the record, they will still play in the championship on Thursday night at the same arena against Canada as they defeated, 3-1, Saturday.

His brother, Brady, was also injured early in the first period during an attack in the Swedish zone, which is worth monitoring on the way into the title game against Canada.

Still, it was the United States that came on the board first thanks to Chris Kreider, New York Rangers Star, who scored his first goal for the tournament.

Kreider had not yet played in the tournament, but was needed with the number of forward. And he did not wasting time getting involved where he scored until one minute marked the first period clock.

Zach Werenski had been given a pass from Jack Eichel and took a shot online rescued by Samuel Ersson, but the deflection went straight to Kreiders Pind. Kreider did not spill any time, a timing of the deflection to find the back of the net.

But Sweden made sure to take the lead into the dressing room after the first period after Jesper Bratt sniped his first goal of the tournament with only 56 seconds left to play.

This goal gave Sweden the lead after Gustav Nyquist tied things out earlier with his first goal of the tournament as well.

The second and third periods were both scoreless, but Team USA threatened late in the third when Jake Oettinger was called back to the bench to give an extra American striker on the ice.

Several chances were seen with 6-to-5, but Sweden was able to avert any comback from the US to get away with its first win in the tournament.

Before this matchup, Sweden had lost to both Canada and Finland in overtime, giving them two points in total.

It could be a loss, but Team USA will be caught up against Team Canada in what is expected to be another fiery clash after what happened this weekend.

Three matches broke out in nine seconds when American players avoided the Montreal audience under “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Canada first came on the scoreboard thanks to Connor McDavid, but Team USA responded with three unanswered goals to win rivalry games.
