4 Nations Face-Off: USA-canada title game sees record viewership

Matches and Anthem Boos led to even relaxing hockey fans being pumped up on Thursday’s 4 nations face-off championship.

Team USA and Team Canada appeared in Boston on Thursday for the final of the tournament in its opening year, five days after the two long -time rivals came in three games in the first nine seconds of their first match last week.

ESPN reported that 9.3 million fans joined the final on Thursday night, the biggest Nielsen -rating -seeskin, recorded in the NHL story dating from 1994. This number is more than twice the game last Saturday attracted 4.4 million people.

The previous record for the Nielsen Ratings was the 8.9 million that knocked on Game 7 in the Stanley Cup final in 2019 between St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins, who, like Thursday’s game, took place in Boston’s TD Garden.

Sports Business Journal reported that 12.41 million people saw Game 7 in the 1971 Cup final between Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks.

The 4 Nations Face-off Championships had been most viewed Hockey games since the 2010 Olympic Gold Medal between Canada and the US (over 27 million), but unfortunately for Americans, Thursday night was déjà vu.

The gold medal game ended with a Sidney Crosby Overtime Goal for Canada, while Connor McDavid on Thursday found the back of the web overtime to give Team Canada the title.

With the victory, Canada moved to 14-4-1 against the United States in the best-to-best format, with victories including the aforementioned competition in 2010, the Olympic gold medal game in 2002 and the Olympic semi-final in 2014.

The Americans won Saturday’s vicious competition, but they still haven’t won back-to-back matches against Canadians since 1996.

Nevertheless, the tournament, which many were afraid of, did not have much humming, energyed the sport and was a busy success.
