The San Francisco 49ers’ broad receiving corps got another hit on Wednesday when head coach Kyle Shanahan said Demarcus Robinson is facing a three-game retirement for violating the league’s drug abuse policy.
The 49s signed Robinson, a Super Bowl champion with Kansas City Chiefs, during the peak season after he spent two years with Los Angeles Rams.

Shanahan told KNBR -Radio that Robinson was suspended pending an appeal after he did not claim any competition last month for a wrongdoing of the DUI charge. The NFL refused to comment on the suspension according to the Associated Press.
Robinson should be a piece of the new targets for quarterback Brock Purdy. Instead, he is likely to be absent from the team to start the year with others who are posted, including Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and Russell Gage.

He said last week he was “anxious” about hearing the final judgment of the league.
“Just waiting for the result to see what happens to it,” Robinson said. “I really don’t know the time frame. Waiting to hear from them, obviously. It’s all up to what the league says.”
Robinson had 31 catches in 505 yards and published a career high seven touchdowns.

San Francisco also made the decision to trade Deebo Samuel to the Washington commanders earlier this year. It will be a whole new look for the offense in 2025.
