5.0-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Quetta, adjacent areas

An earthquake of 5.0 in size hit Quetta and the surrounding areas on Sunday night, the National Seismic Monitoring Center said.

The epicenter of the earthquake was about 65 kilometers west of Quetta, and its depth was 25 km, it added.

No loss of life or property has been reported.

The remores were reported after an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude hit Karachi’s neighborhood Malir four days ago.

Earthquakes have often rattled the region, especially Pakistan and Afghanistan, in recent years. Record shows seismic activity in neighboring countries, located at the intersection of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Last month, Afghanistan witnessed a massive size 6 earthquake in the robust eastern region of the country, killed more than 2,200 people and injured several thousand others.

Several parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawal Pindi, Peshawar, Marran, Chitral, Murree and adjacent areas, also felt the shaking in the following days when reports of effects felt as far away as Lahore, panic citizens to hurry out of their homes.
