Dyson Air packs don’t come cheaply. If you want to protect your investment by getting yours to last as long as possible, this article is here to help.
It’s also sustainability week here at Techradar, and we look at ways you can make your gadget-habit more environmentally friendly. Finding ways to solve, upgrade or otherwise avoid having to buy a brand new Airwrap is not only a win for your bank balance, it’s also better for the planet.
We talked to a spokesman for Dyson about the brand’s approach to sustainability, and they told us that its first priority is to make sure everything is built to last in the first place.
“During the development, Dyson is dependent on extensive testing – products fall over 5,000 times, digital engines run for up to 20,000 hours, and machines undergo durability tests to make sure the machine remains uncompromising and is tough enough, testing the failure,” the spokesman said. “By focusing on long life and supporting repair ability through modular design, Dyson helps to keep their devices in use for an extended period of time.”
Hopefully your Airwrap will be built to stay around – we were definitely impressed with the build quality as we tested it for our Dyson Airwrap ID review. But if you want to upgrade, repair, replace or reuse it, read on how to do it …
#1. Upgrade your accessories
If you had an older airwrap and are horrified to see better accessories that appear with newer models (for example, comparing Dyson Airwrap vs. Airwrap ID, the latter has a new tapering curl barrel), you can pimp your original Airwrap by buying new additions separately. This is also a good cry if one of your attachments breaks down.
For real Dyson parts, go directly to the accessory store within the Dyson website. Here you can buy different shaped and size Krøll Tønder or upgrade to a two -way if you made your first purchase when it was still separately clockwise and anti -clock barrels. There are also various brush fasteners and even accessories.
As you would expect, the official Dyson accessories are pretty expensive – although much cheaper (and more sustainable) than buying a brand new Airwrap. Also note that what is available varies by country – the US and Australian stores are much better in stock than the British store at the time of writing.
- Dyson Accessory Store: US / UK / AU
We’ve seen some DUPE accessories through sites like Amazon, but unless you’re really desperate, we recommend avoiding these and choosing the right thing. You are never quite sure what you get and if it turns out to be waste quality or incompatible, then you get into the wild west of Amazon Returns.
#2. Replace broken parts
In addition to an accessory store, Dyson also sells spare parts to many of its products. In fact, there are not many moving parts for Airwrap – except for the accessories we have covered above – but you must be able to pick up a replacement filter cage if your breaks.
This is also the place to go if you want to pick up a case or travel wrapping for your Airwrap. The former may be a good idea for protective purposes if you do not have a place to safely save your styles with its accessories.

#3. Clean the filter monthly
According to Dyson, the cause of the vast majority of Airwrap problems is that you have neglected to keep the filter clean. You need to clean your filter, after the process described below, monthly – or fail that when LED -Filter Warning Light continuously starts flashing towards you.
- Disconnect the machine and leave it to cool down completely
- Push the filter cage over the cord and open it
- Pass the c-shower through the power cord to start cleaning
- Turn C-Brush up and down on filter net or use a soft, dry toothbrush to remove dust and waste (Don’t do it Use water or chemicals to clean the filter network itself)
- Wipe C-Brush gently to clean it
- Loosen waste from the filter cage using the dry C-brush
- Bring the filter cage to a sink (Don’t do it Bring the rest of the machine with it – let it off well from the water)
- Rinse the filter cage and c-brush under hot running water
- Apply an honorary size of clarifying shampoo on C-BRUSH
- Scrub the filter cage lightly using C-brush in circular and up-and-down movements to remove stubborn structure
- Rinse for 20 seconds to make sure all shampoo is away from the filter cage
- Gently shake the filter cage to remove excess water, then squeeze with a paper towel
- Hold the filter cage up to the light to check that it is completely clean
- Allow all parts, including the filter cage to air dry thoroughly before collectingDon’t do it Collect the machine overall while any parts are still wet)
- Cut the filter cage back on the machine.
#4. Troubleshooting other problems
There is a support section on the Dyson website designed to help if something goes wrong. Here you can download the user manual for different versions of Airwrap.
There is also a click-through error finding section that covers problems such as poor product performance, electrical errors and unusual odors or sounds. Some of the solutions offered are common sense, but it can still be helpful to help ensure that there is nothing obvious that you may be missing.
If you need further help, there is a customer support line or you can access support via live chat or whatsapp (UK only).

#5. Repair it
Yes … kind. It seems to vary by product and by country.
In the UK, Dyson offers a repair service where it picks up your machine, take it away and arrange it for you. This is free if the machine is under warranty (two years from purchase) or £ 99 otherwise.
On the Dyson UK site, it is not clear if air packages are included -the page reads: “For more information about repairs and service to the Dyson Hair Care series (including hair dryers, smooth owners, styles), please contact us.”
However, our spokesman for Dyson told us that repair was An option for air packs: “Repairs, replacements and parts are covered free of charge for problems caused by normal use or manufacturing defects via the two-year warranty. For products that are not winning products, paid repair services with real dyson parts are available. Registration of your device with a Mydyson account allows you to track your warranty and access personal support.”
In the United States, Dyson covers repairs for products that are under warranty, but it is not seen to be an option if it is after that period. Again, it is unclear whether hair tools like Airwrap are included as all the language on site focuses on vacuum.
In Australia you also have the opportunity to try the product for 45 days and if you don’t get it with it, you can return it (with original packaging, in original state) for free. We could not find any mention of repair options in Australia.

#6. Buy Renovated
If your current Airwrap is not saving or you are looking for a more sustainability -conscious (and affordable) opportunity for your first purchase, consider buying a renovated model.
“Dyson gives their machines another life by expanding their sustainability efforts through renovated machines,” the spokesman said. “They are thoroughly quality tested and use real Dyson replacement parts.”
Occasionally you will find renovated Dyson products sold directly via Dyson, but a better place to look is the brand’s official eBay Refurb store. This generally has a wide range of certified renovated appliances available, and there is also a relatively quick turnover of products – it is worth checking back if the airwrap you want is not available the first time you look.
Ebay has a well -established renovation system. Based on this authors’ experience and other customer reviews, it is a reliable and straightforward place to pick up pre-loved electronics.
Can you recycle a Dyson Airwrap?
If you buy a new Dyson Airwrap and you have an old one you no longer want or need, you may be able to give your old back to Dyson to recycle – at least in England.
“To reuse your old machine, you can bring it into a Dyson -Demo store within 28 days of purchasing your new Dyson machine, show us reception or order confirmation -e -email, and it can be reused for free,” our British spokesman said. “The machine returned must be of a similar type or has performed the same feature as the new item purchased.”
You can also recycle old air packages in the same way you would other small electrical appliances. This will vary by country and area. If you are in the UK, this is a very useful tool for finding your local recycling, donating or repair options for electrical items (Air packages are not listed, but we suspect it will be treated in the same way as AA blowing dryer, which is).
