Lahore:
Large-scale rescue and relief operations are underway across flooding areas in Punjab, where thousands of people have been evacuated in the midst of rising water levels in larger rivers.
The provincial government, rescue 1122, the police, the army, the civil defense and voluntary organizations, including the EDHI Fund, work around the clock to prevent further loss of life and protection of property.
According to Rescue 1122 numbers, more than 51,129 people have been rescued from submerged villages along Ravi, Sutlej and Jhelum Rivers. The service has deployed 669 both all over the province to evacuate residents and deliver transport to safer locations.
Over the past 24 hours alone, at least 19,215 people were moved from flooding areas, while 442 were more saved on Thursday morning.
A spokesman for rescue 1122 urged citizens in vulnerable places to immediately call the relief line 1122 in the event of danger and give accurate details of their location.
Inspector General Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar instructed Lahore Police and District Police Officers (DPOS) in affected regions to remain on high alarm. He said police helped rescue teams change residents, protect property in evacuated areas and provide security in emergency camps. “The Punjab police stand shoulder to shoulder with rescue and relief agencies to protect citizens’ lives and possessions,” he said.
The police have also been tasked with supporting the supply of food, drinking water and medicine at relief centers while coordinating with PDMA, Rescue 1122 and district administrations.
