- A PlayStation 6 handheld is allegedly on the way
- The information comes from a reliable hardware leaks
- The handheld will reportedly be like Nintendo Switch 2 and compatible with a dock
A reliable hardware leak claims Sony is working on a handheld version of PlayStation 6, and it sounds very terrible like a Nintendo Switch 2.
This information comes from the YouTube channel ‘Moore’s Law is dead’, which previously has exactly detailed PlayStation -hardware prior to its official disclosure.
The handheld will reportedly be driven by an AMD system on a chip (SOC) codename ‘canis’. The leaks claim that Canis will contain four Zen 6C kernels and two Zen 6 -seeds with low power to run system tasks.
This will apparently be paired with a 16x Compute Unit RDNA 5 GPU.
Interestingly, the leak says the handheld will be compatible with a dock – one of my favorite features in Nintendo Switch 2. In handheld mode, GPU will run with 1.2 GHz, which is then increased to 1.65 GHz when assumed, to presumably support a higher output resolution.
They also wonder about the potential price and argue that it will be about $ 500 to compete with Switch 2.
Given the high cost of other Sony hardware, I think this price prediction may be a bit long-term, but we just have to wait and see.
In related news, the company recently revealed a slate of expensive ghost of Yōtei PS5 hardware and announced that it would increase the price of the console by $ 50 in the US.
