Los Angeles Chargers are winners in Brazil to start the 2025 NFL season as they took Kansas City Chiefs, 27-21, Friday night.

Chiefs had won the previous seven matchups against their AFC West rival, but Justin Herbert and chargers had finished the line when they played almost flawless football in São Paulo, Brazil.

Chiefs lost a key player on offensive only three pieces into the game when Xavier Worthy collided with Travis Kelce and suffered a shoulder injury that struck him out of the rest of the game. Worthy expected to be a top goal for Mahomes, with head coach Andy Reid and noticed that he had a good gameplan for the second year’s recipient in this game.

Without him, Chiefs sputtered against violation to start the game, but Herbert and Chargers were locked from Kickoff.

They started off a hot start with a seven-play touchdown drive that was uncovered by a five-yard strike from Herbert to Quentin Johnston to quickly make it 7-0 in the fourth quarter. Cameron Dicker added his first field goal of the season to make it 10-0 while Chiefs put on his first three drives.

It was all field goals in the second quarter for both teams, but the most exciting was Harrison Butker, who knocked home a 59-yard field goal, just as time expires. It was a fire exercise for Chiefs as Noah Gray was not considered outside the boundaries, and the Special Teams unit has to hurry on the field and click the ball with nine seconds left in the first half.

It was an uncharacteristic first half for Kansas City’s violation, but they would quickly have the right ship with their first driving in the second half. Mahomes led the road and walked 80 meters in 11 pieces where he would pamper into the final zone of Chiefs’ first touchdown of the season.

But Herbert and Chargers reacted and ran a 12-play drive that took almost eight minutes of watch, finding his old friend Keenan Allen, who retired with Los Angeles this season, for touchdown to make it 20-12.

The fourth quarter was the most exciting thing in this Brazilian match when Travis Kelce jumped free of charge for a 37-yard touchdown-catch-and-run for his first score of the year. It did it 20-18 as Chiefs could not convert their two-point attempt.

The whole momentum was with Kansas City, but once again the chargers responded to their divisional. Herbert ran right on the Kansas City 23-yard line and tossed a side arm pass to Johnston for his second touchdown of the game.

The 27-18 gap was needed midway through the fourth quarter, as Mahomes would launch a 49-yard care on the race to Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on fourth-and-7 to put chiefs in the red zone. They had to settle for a field goal, but they were within a touchdown and needed a stop on defense.

But the story of this game was Herbert, who did exactly what was needed to respond to chiefs, and he did it on a crucial third-and-14, encrypted out of pocket and went 19 meters to seal the victory in Brazil.

Herbert was a phenomenal for chargers when he went 25-for-34 in 318 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Johnston ended with 79 yards on five catches, while Ladd McConkey had six catches in 74 yards. Allen also had seven catches in 68 yards and a score.

For Chiefs, Mahomes 24-for-39 went through the air in 258 yards and a touchdown, while the team led the team on the ground with 57 meters rushing on six carriers. Brown had 10 catches in 99 yards, while Kelce had only two catches in 47 yards and a touchdown.
