CJ Stroud calls Texans ‘Lollegagging’ in 14-9 losses to Rams

Houston Texans was unable to find the final zone on Sunday in their 14-9 loss to Los Angeles Rams, and their Star-Quarterback CJ Stroud made a blunt statement about his team’s performance.

“We didn’t deserve to win that game because we didn’t do the right things,” said Stroud pr. CBS SPORTS. “When you get out in NFL-Lolygagging that goes through the movements, that kind of thing happens. I think we’ll be okay, but I think it’s a good wake-up call for us.”

An expression like Lollygagging is never what you will be categorized as in the NFL, but being a leader in the dressing room in his third season, Stroud knows what is acceptable and what is not on game day.

Houston was up in this game at the break after Ka’imi Fairbairn managed to beat through three field goals to make it 9-7. However, the Texans fell flat in the second half and were shut out of the frame as they turned the ball over twice and had to point to other offensive possessions.

Stroud and Texans’ violation has been a strength since Ohio State Quarterback was selected second in 2023 NFL Draft. However, 265 meters total violation is not what they had in mind to start the 2025 season, especially after winning AFC South and a Wild Card round game in 2024.

Stroud went 19-of-27 through the air in 188 yards and an eavesdropping. Given his last match against Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round ended without a touchdown pass, this is the first time in Stroud’s career he has gone back-to-back games without one.

So he also keeps himself in charge as well as his teammates.

“I love the confidence we have, but there is a type of mind, ‘I did enough?'” Stroud continued. “I think it’s healthy because you are likely to do more. Just for me, I prepare, I have to do a better job, and I also have to hold all my guys responsible. And that’s the first game of the year. We got a lot of exotic looks we didn’t expect. They did too. They made spectacles. You can come up with a million excuses.

Stroud burst on the NFL scene in 2023 as the offensive rookie of the year after putting 41108 yards with 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions over 15 matches. His production took a light dip last season after throwing himself into 3,727 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, where the latter state was something he will turn around in 2025.

So this was not a step in the right direction, but as Stroud said, there is plenty of football left to play in 2025.

“Will you lie down, or do you have to play? For me I just try to go and compete as best I can and show the guys I don’t care who’s in there. I trust you. I try to play as hard as I can to show them that I’m there for them.”
