Lions, Nilgai -calves, deer saved from flooded Bahawalnagar

Punjab Wildlife Rangers has saved two orphans Nilgai (Blue Bull) calves from Haroonabad, a border area in Bahawalnagar after they were separated from their mother during the recent floods.

The calves have been moved to the Bahawalnagar Zoo, where they are hand -fed and provided with special care.

According to wildlife officials, emergency operations are underway across flooding districts to protect vulnerable wild species. So far, eight deer have been saved and moved to veterinary camps for medical treatment.

On August 26, a couple of deer swept across the border with Sialkot with flooding water, while a pregnant and wounded deer on August 27 was rescued in Narowal and provided medical help. Another young deer was secured in Shakargarh.

Similar rescue operations in Murideke, Wazirabad and Mandi Bahauddin led to the safe improvement of three male and two female deer.

Earlier in Lahore, six lions were caught on a farm along Ravi near Multan Road also evacuated and moved to a safe place where they receive veterinary care.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb praised the ongoing operations and stated that Rangers and Rescue Teams had set a remarkable example by risking their own lives to protect endangered wildlife in difficult circumstances.

She reiterated that the Punjab government considers the protection of wildlife as a highest priority and “will not leave any living being abandoned in times of crisis.”

Meanwhile, the Wildlife Ranger has intensified operations against illegal hunting and quail decor all over the province.

Several hunting tools are confiscated, dozens of offenders challenged and fines at millions of rupees imposed in districts including Bahawalnagar, Jhelum, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bhakkar.
