Govt moves to declare climate situation

Islamabad:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced the approval of principled approval to declare the emergency and agriculture’s emergency in view of the ongoing monsoon rain and flooding situation across the country.

The Prime Minister will soon convene a meeting with the main ministers in all four provinces and relevant officials to formulate a strategy aimed at mitigating further damage from the harmful effects of climate change.

The decision was made during a federal cabinet meeting that was chairman of the Prime Minister, where members were informed of the extent of flood loss. Millions of hectares of agricultural land and crops have been damaged, the cabinet was told, with members who suggested measures for infrastructure year of education, compensation for farmers and support for agricultural recovery.

The cabinet condemned highly offensive content and derogatory statements circulated on social media against the martyrs and the armed forces.

As he pays tribute to the officers and soldiers who continue to defend the country’s borders, members also pay homage to the families of martyrs for their victims. The cabinet directed strict action against those involved in malicious campaigns, where the Prime Minister declared it was a national responsibility to deter such elements.

“The Pakistani nation can never forget the huge victims of its martyrs and their families. I’m proud of them with the whole nation,” said the prime minister. The meeting also asked for the height of the ranks of larger Adnan Aslam Shaheed, who embraced martyrdom in the Bannu operation.

Compassion and prayers were also offered to the deceased mother of federal minister of maritime affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, the older brother of Prime Minister of Food Safety Malik Rasheed Ahmad Khan and father of former Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Asif Sanjrani.

The Prime Minister strongly condemned the “illegal and abhorrent” Israeli bombing in Doha, resulting in civilian losses and material damage. He expressed solidarity with Emir of Qatar, the royal family and the people of Qatar over the tragedy.

Separately approved the cabinet a proposal from the Ministry of Petroleum to provide RLNG connections to long-going consumers. After this decision, Sui Southern and Sui Northern Gas Companies begin to expand these connections. RLNG, informed officials, will be about 30% cheaper than LPG, giving considerable relief to households.

The cabinet also approved the trilateral Inter-Governmental Framework Agreement for a common feasibility study of a strategic rail link between Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Signed last month, the project is expected to play a key role in increasing regional trade and connectivity. To join the agreement, the cabinet confirmed its commitment to the timely implementation of this initiative.

In addition, the Cabinet Records made decisions made by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), the Cabinet Committee for intergovernmental commercial transactions (CCOIGCT) and the Cabinet Committee for Legislative Cases (CCLC).

With the climate and agricultural emergency institution, the government is now focused on creating a comprehensive reaction plan to protect livelihood, restore agricultural land and strengthen the country’s resilience to Klimachok.
