PUNJAB RIVERS RETURNS BACK TO NORMAL WHEN MONSUN ENDS: DG PDMA

Punjab’s Monsun season has ended and river currents have returned to normal, Director -General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Irfan Ali Kathia said Friday while outlining the province’s flood damage and relief operations.

At a press conference, Kathia confirmed that all rivers are now at normal levels. Chenab shows no top from Marala to Panjnad, and water is withdrawn from Jassar to Sadhnai, although Sutlej continues to carry a slightly higher stream.

He reported that 22 kilometers of Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5) will remain closed due to flooding, with 10-12 kilometers still underwater, but repair work is underway. Jalalpur – the Lodhran road remains closed as well.

Violation point at Rawaj Bridge, Sadhnai and Multan are filled in when Chenab’s level drops.

DG PDMA said 4895 villages in 28 districts were affected, which affected 407,030 people. More than 612,800 inhabitants and two million animals were evacuated.

Across South Punjab, 331 emergency relief camps house about 106,000 people, supported by 425 medical camps and mobile clinics.

The floods have so far caused 123 deaths and damaged 2.58 million Acres agricultural land, with Gujrat and Faisalabad suffering from the worst crop losses.

Corn was severely affected, Rice lost 15 percent of her yield, sugar cane 13 percent and cotton 5 percent. Reports show that 824 animals remain missing, pending the study of the study.

Rescue efforts

CM PUNJAB conducted further immediate work on recovering roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure in flood areas.

Separately praised provincial senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb front -line workers. “Suthra Punjab, Civil Defense, C&W, Forest and Wildlife staff performed their tasks with great spirit during the floods,” she said.

She conveyed a special message of “appreciation and sabash” to all flooding workers. “We are all part of CM’s team. Saving a life is a noble act; to save hundreds or thousands – only Allah knows the reward.”

She noticed that pureedness drives during flooding had helped prevent disease outbreaks. “Workers who worked with sincerity will be rewarded,” Aurangzeb assured.
