- The US seeks to regain control of base used after 9/11.
- Trump confirmed that conversations with Afghanistan are underway.
- Kabul calls for engagement without US military presence.
US President Trump threatened Afghanistan on Saturday if it doesn’t give control of the Bagram Flybbil to the United States.
“If Afghanistan does not give Bagram Airbase back to those who built the one, the United States of America, bad things will happen,” Trump said in a true social speech.
Trump said Thursday that the United States had tried to regain control of the base used by US forces after the September 11, 2001 attacks. He told journalists on Friday that he was talking to Afghanistan about it.
The withdrawal of US forces in 2021 led to a takeover of the base of the Taliban movement.
Afghan officials have expressed resistance to a revived US presence.
“Afghanistan and the United States have to engage in each other … without the united states maintaining any military presence in any part of Afghanistan,” said Zakir Jalal, an Afghan Foreign Ministry’s official, in a x on Thursday.
