National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed that at least 1,006 people have lost their lives in recent rain and floods, while 3.02 million individuals have been saved in flood regions over Pakistan since June 26.
The authority on Sunday released fresh figures and revealed that torrential rain and flash floods had led to 5,768 rescue operations nationwide. During these operations, 273,524 emergency aids were distributed, while 662,098 people received medical treatment of 741 camps created under the coordinated efforts of NDMA, provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAS), the Pakistani Army and other rescue services.
The NDMA figures show that Punjab accounted for the highest number perished with 304 deaths – including 110 children, 143 men and 51 women. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported 504 deaths covering 90 children, 338 men and 76 women.
Sindh reported 80 deaths, including 35 children, while Balochistan confirmed 30 fatalities. Gilgit-Baltistan lost 41 people, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 38 and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Nine.
Flood -related events also left 1,063 people wounded nationwide. Punjab again reported the highest number of injuries in which 661 individuals were affected. KP reported 218 injuries, SINDH 87, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) 52, AJK 37, Balochistan Five and ICT three.
Punjab reported the highest number of rescues, with 2.81 million people evacuated through 4,749 operations. Sindh followed with 184,011 rescues in 753 operations, while KP evacuated 14,317 people in 211 operations.
According to NDMA, 12,569 homes have been damaged nationwide, 4,128 destroyed and 8,441 partially damaged – while floods have also required 6,509 livestock.
Auxiliary distributions included tents, blankets, hygiene kits, ration bags and lunches along with equipment such as solar panels, de-water pumps and generators. A total of 1,690 camps were established, which included 741 medical camps, which treated over 662,000 people and 949 relief providing shelter for 152,252 individuals.
At least 239 bridges and 1,981 km roads have been destroyed or damaged. KP reported the loss of 52 bridges and 437 km of roads, AJK 94 Bridges and 201 km roads and GB 87 bridges with 20 km roads.
NDMA said coordinated efforts to provide relief, recovery of infrastructure and support aid is still continuing.
