Chicago Cubs -Infielder Matt Shaw was away from the team on Sunday when they undertook Cincinnati Reds to attend Charlie Kirk’s Memorial Service in Arizona, according to several reports.
Cubs did not confirm that Shaw was gone at Kirk’s service, but Chicago Sun-Times reported that manager Craig Counsell mentioned to the media that Shaw was at a funeral for a friend.

“Matt Shaw wasn’t available today,” Counsell said. “He attended the funeral of a friend.”
The 23-year-old knew the conservative influencer personally. Kirk published a photo of himself at Wrigley Field with Shaw and Michael Busch last month. Shaw was scratched from the set -up on September 10 – the day Kirk was murdered on Campus at Utah Valley University – for personal reasons. Later, he went into the game as a pinch, according to The Athletic.
More than 90,000 participated in Kirk’s Memorial Service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Cubs were among the teams in MLB to pay tribute to Kirk. The team called to end “all political violence.”
“May we all as Americans meet in solidarity to strengthen our nation, end these meaningless actions and turn to civil discourse to discuss our differences,” said a message before the game was said throughout the Ball Park before a match against Tampa Bay Rays.
The flag at Wrigley Field was flown with half staff in accordance with MLB’s request for teams to follow President Donald Trump’s presidential proclamation.
New York Yankees also paid tribute to Kirk at Yankee Stadium.
Chicago lost against Cincinnati Sunday 1-0. The team has already clucked a playoff -kaj.
