- Google Survey finds that 90% of developers use AI at work, 80% see higher productivity
- Two -thirds relying strongly on AI, many spend it 2 hours/day
- Many still do not fully trust AI’s output, which suggests that more need to be done
It’s no secret that developers use AI to help with their repeated coding activities, but new Google research has revealed the true scope of AI use -two out of three (65%) software -Devs that say they are now strongly dependent on AI tools.
In terms of general use, almost all development people (90%) allegedly use that they now use AI, a sharp increase over the 14%observed in 2024.
Today, it uses Medary time using AI in workflows among these types of workers now in two hours.
Google says developers really use AI
The benefits of developers using the technology are clear – four out of five agree that they see higher productivity from AI use, and three out of five (59%) claim to see improvements in their code quality.
When using generative AI, developers can free themselves more time for problem solving, design and supervision of AI that handle the lower coding requirements.
However, there is still some resentment over the transfer of work to computer information, with fewer than a quarter (24%) that trust AI output ‘much’ or ‘much’. As such, developers tend to see AI as a supportive tool and not a replacement for human judgment.
Despite our worst fears, the report also reveals that AI-Adoption has not changed significantly how developers are experiencing their working life yet, with programmers who feel that their expertise is still valued despite the increase in time-saving AI.
For companies, AI has both positive and negative consequences, with Google Senior Director of Product Management Ryan J Salva, who calls the technology a “mirror and a multiplier.”
“In coherent organizations, AI increases the efficiency. In Fragmenter, it highlights the weaknesses,” noted Salva.
The decade old Devops Research and Assessment (Dora) program shared workers in seven team sheet types to dive a little deeper into how AI affects developers at work, concluding that organizations must “develop their culture, processes and systems to support a new era of software development.”
