Ex-arsenal youth player Billy Vigar dies at. 21 After Brain Injury

A former Arsenal youth player has died after suffering a significant brain injury during an English non-league match on Saturday.

Billy Vigar collided with a concrete wall during the game on Wingate and Finchley while trying to prevent a ball from going out of play, per. Espn.

The 21-year-old was placed in an induced coma and underwent an operation on Tuesday in the hope of helping his improvement. However, Vigar died on Thursday of his injuries.

“It’s with great sadness that Chichester City Football Club needs to confirm the transition to Billy Vigar,” said the club he played in a statement on social media.

“We request that his family’s privacy be respected at this most difficult time. Rest in Fred Billy. Forever in the heart of all at Chichester City Football Club.”

Vigar’s death led to Chichester City exposed his planned match against Lewes on Saturday.

His family released a statement through the club: “The answers to the original update show how much Billy was thought of and loved in the sport. His family is ruined by the fact that this has happened while playing the sport he loved.”

Vigar joined Arsenal’s Academy in 2017 and signed a professional agreement with the club in 2022.

“Everyone in Arsenal is ruined by the shocking news that the former Academy Candidate Billy Vigar has died,” Arsenal said in a statement. The club described him as a “powerful and versatile forward.”

“All our thoughts are with his family and dear at this time. Rest in peace, Billy.”

The Isthmian League Premier Division, the semi-professional league, where Chichester City plays, announced that a moment of silence would be observed before all matches this weekend. Players over the league also wear black bracelets to honor Vigar.
