- Google -Photos could be in line for another AI upgrade
- The photo-to-video feature can get a full quick box
- It shows Google’s continued obligation to AI features
One of the nice tricks that AI bots are capable of is to turn still images into short video clips, and that’s something you can already do on Google photos to a limited extent. Now it seems that the feature is getting a significant upgrade.
As discovered by the team on Android Authority, there is a hidden code in the latest Google Photos app, which suggests there will soon be a complete AI-TEXT prompt field available for this image-to-video feature-so you can describe exactly what you will happen.
It gives you much more flexibility than the current options that started rolling out in July for some users: ‘Subtle Movement’ and ‘I feel lucky’. These options mostly let AI decide how the image should be animated.
The feature is still driven by Google’s older VEO 2 model. It’s not up to the standards of the latest VEO 3 model, but it’s still capable of some impressive and fun results – and all you need is a starting image.
The continued spread of AI
It is another example of how Google pushes its AI tools into all its different apps and services – to provide Gemini, VEO and the other models a wider range than competitors that Chatgpt can manage at the moment.
It also extends to Gadgets: Google recently introduced a number of new smart home products, including updated nest cameras and a Google Smart speaker that arrived next year and they all come with Gemini on board.
Openai is still continuing to expand its offerings with multiple apps, such as the recently launched Sora 2 video app and attached social network of kinds. Rumors continue that there are also chatgpt-driven hardware devices on the way.
There is no guarantee that the hidden feature stained in Google photos will eventually appear and roll out to everyone, but it looks like a likely next step – so keep an eye on the app for all updated settings that appear.
