- Openai CEO Sam Altman has spoken Sora 2
- More control for copyright holders is in pipeline
- There may soon be a payment system for videos too
Earlier this week, Openai Sora 2 launched a significant upgrade of the former AI-Videoreneration Tool, along with a new app and a personalized personalized feed of video clips in Tiktok and there are some changes on the road, according to Openai Ceo Sam Altman.
First, Altman says that copyright holders will get “more granular control” over how their characters can be used in the Sora app -In other words, it may not be so easy to generate clips with Marvel and Disney figures in the future.
“Right dealers … are very excited about this new kind of ‘interactive fan fiction’ and think this new kind of commitment will accrue a lot of value to them, but want the ability to specify how their characters can be used (including not at all),” explains Altman.
From Openai’s perspective, it wants so many users and so many video clip generations as it might get – and it hopes to make the technology convincingly enough that copyright owners want to get involved while giving them the choice to opt out of it.
In that for the money
The second change that Altman is talking about in his new blog post is around the revenue beneficiary – although it seems that this will be for companies whose work is included in the Sora rocks, rather than the users who create them.
According to Altman, Sora users generate much more video than Openai expected, and therefore there may be a kind of payment-to-generated system that was introduced in the near future (there have been previous hints to make users pay during periods of high demand).
“We will try to share some of these revenue with legal gardens who want their characters generated by users,” says Altman. “The exact model will take some sample and mistake to find out, but we plan to start very soon.”
Right now, the Sora app is only available to iOS, and only in the US and Canada – and you need to have an invitation to try it. However, you can expect it to become more accessible soon, and probably with tighter restrictions on what you can do.
