Oklahoma Soner’s wide receiver Keontz Lewis left the team’s 44-0 win over Kent State Golden flashes early after suffering a daunting injury to a catch attempt.

Lewis tried to track a ball from Quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr., who was thrown over his head in the first quarter. He was on the back of the final zone when he caught it, but fell and crashed his head into the wall wall that made the final zone at Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.

Lewis was motionless on earth for several seconds before the team’s training staff came to tend to him. He was strapped to a stretcher and driven off the field.

“It was just a heartfelt thing,” said Sooner’s defensive than R Mason Thomas. “That’s my teammate, my brother and he’s in pain. I hope he’s fine. We have to definitely send some messages to him, be in the hospital. Hope he’s doing well.”

Lewis was sent offside for further testing and the prospects were “promising,” said OU Sports Medicine.

“What a daunting thing for him,” said Oklahoma coach Brent Venables after the game. “Hopefully he will be ok in the long term here.”

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables said he thinks more padding will come to the exposed brick barrier around the field.

“We evaluate all the possibilities when it comes to our players,” he said.
