- Workers are not satisfied with a lack of empathy and transparency from leaders
- AI tools give them greater autonomy and more free time, HP studies find
- Younger workers also want more flexibility
The 2025 edition of the HP’s Work Relationship Index has highlighted a broad worker distrust of leadership – to find only 14% of the 1,300 who were investigated, trust that their senior leaders are making the right decisions (down 12 percentage points compared to last year).
Workers noticed a lack of empathy (86%) and transparent communication (86%), where two out of five (41%) feel that their business prioritizes profits rather than people.
On the flip side, technologies such as AI actually help employees at work, connect holes that are left to lack leadership and give them more control over how they get the job done.
Workers don’t get enough support at work
Three -quarters (76%) of British employees are now using AI at work to help them across productivity, content creation and data analysis, but it goes deeper than that. Two out of five of the workers who say they are happy at work use company-delivered AI tools daily, which shows that correct tool determination makes a significant difference in workers’ satisfaction.
“Companies that democratize access to AI, provide education and integrate tech into daily workflows already see higher levels of fulfillment and loyalty,” explained HP Northern Europe MD Neil Sawyer.
Three out of four (76%) say that technology has improved their balance between working life and life, which is proof that productivity tools really free up working hours from repeated and administrative tasks.
It is not only technology that the workers are looking for, but also greater flexibility. Four out of five Gen Z workers would voluntarily sacrifice some wages in favor of more flexibility and autonomy.
Looking ahead, HP encourages employers to focus on three key areas: leading with empathy and transparency to promote open communication; Invest in tools and skills to equip workers with the resources they need; And enable hybrid work and autonomy to give workers greater flexibility.
“Companies that democratize access to AI, provide education and integrate tech into daily workflows already see higher levels of fulfillment and loyalty,” Sawyer concluded.
