Tsunami warning issued after strong 7.6-strength-jolts hit the Philippines

Strong earthquake of 7.6 size strikes from the southern Philippines, Tsunami -Warning Issued

Manila: An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 hit offshore in the southern Philippines on Friday, said the country’s seismology agency with a tsunami warning issued and people in nearby coastal areas called to evacuate to higher land.

The PhivolCs agency warned about injuries and aftermooks after the strong offshore earthquake that hit the waters of Manay Town in Davao Oriental in the Mindanao region. It said the earthquake happened at a depth of 10 km (6 miles).

The agency warned people living in coastal cities in the central and southern Philippines to immediately evacuate to higher land or move further inland.

There were no immediate reports of injury.

Phivolcs said that wave heights of up to more than one meter above normal tides could be expected in the next two hours.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Center set the size of 7.4 and at a depth of 58 km (36 miles).

The US Tsunami warning system also issued a tsunami threat and said that dangerous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 186 km (186 miles) from the episents of the earthquake.
