Pakistan closes airspace for two days during Indian military exercises

Movement taken as a security measure associated with Indian military exercises being conducted near the Pakistan border

Pakistan has decided to temporarily close parts of its airspace bordering India for two days, citing precautionary measures amid Indian military exercises near the border. The move is a temporary security measure linked to Indian military exercises being conducted close to Pakistan’s border.

The closure will remain in effect on October 28 and 29 between 6 and 9. The restriction applies to multiple flight routes within the Karachi and Lahore flight information regions connecting Indian airspace.

The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a Notice to Airmen to all airlines and air carriers advising them to take necessary precautions and plan alternative flight paths during the restricted hours.

Commercial and cargo flights passing through affected corridors are expected to experience minor delays or diversion during the closure period, although normal operations will resume outside the limited time frame.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Airports Authority has launched the implementation of a digital payment system across all airports in the country in accordance with the directives of the government and the State Bank of Pakistan’s financial inclusion.

The move aims to promote convenience for passengers, ensure transparent transactions and support the transition to a modern financial ecosystem.
