Pakistan, Uzbekistan set sights on $2bn trade target

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to deepen economic cooperation, with both sides agreeing on concrete measures to boost trade, investment, regional relations and sectoral partnerships during a high-level meeting in the federal capital.

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan held detailed talks with Uzbekistan’s Commerce Minister Laziz Kudratov, reviewing progress on bilateral initiatives and identifying practical steps to translate political goodwill into measurable economic results across multiple sectors.

Welcoming the Uzbek delegation, Jam said Pak-Uzbek engagement had intensified significantly over the past two years through frequent high-level contacts and sustained institutional follow-up, stressing that the focus must now shift towards effective implementation and delivery.

He stressed the need to materialize existing opportunities by addressing gaps in logistics, business relations and execution, while stressing the importance of keeping trade and investment coordination streamlined to ensure business continuity and predictability.

The Uzbek minister thanked Pakistan for the hospitality and arrangements made for the visit, noting that both countries were preparing for an upcoming high-level visit from Uzbekistan, which he said was expected to mark another milestone in the developing bilateral partnership.

Highlighting positive trade trends, Kudratov said bilateral trade increased by around 10% last year, with Uzbekistan’s imports from Pakistan increasing by around 12%, while Uzbek exports to Pakistan grew by around 8%.
