DERA GHAZI KHAN:
A Rs 12 billion sewerage project aimed at overhauling the urban sanitation system in Dera Ghazi Khan was reviewed during a visit by Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal on Tuesday.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid, the secretary inspected ongoing works under the Punjab Development Programme, where officials said the Rs12 billion initiative is designed to provide a modern, sustainable and efficient sewage network to the city.
Managing Director of WASA Malik Jawad Kaleem briefed the officials about the technical progress of the project. Secretary Mengal also visited two RCC pipe factories set up for the scheme. One facility produces pipe with a diameter of 72 inches, while the other manufactures pipe ranging from 12 to 42 inches in diameter.
The officials reviewed production processes, quality assurance measures and speed of construction, stressing strict adherence to technical standards. At Masoomabad Road, officials demonstrated the laying and assembly of a 24-inch pipeline and ongoing sewer line installations.
The secretary expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, the technical compliance and the security measures adopted at the site. He termed the project as a milestone for improving urban infrastructure and citizen services in Dera Ghazi Khan, stressing the importance of timely completion and maintaining high construction standards.
Deputy Commissioner Khalid said strict monitoring mechanisms are in place to ensure quality and punctual project delivery, adding that the upgraded sewage system would improve urban living conditions and promote public health.
Officials said the project is expected to significantly improve wastewater management and lay the foundation for a cleaner, more resilient urban environment.
