Still no official release date…
I guess the biggest disappointment from this teaser is that we still don’t know exactly when House of the Dragon 3 will premiere.
Sure, it premieres in June, but an official launch date would have been a good way to close out the trailer. *sigh*
What did you think?
Well, that was about 70 seconds of epic flaming action, wasn’t it?
The big question though is, did you like it? Sound off in the comments below!
It’s time
Get ready, everyone, because we’re minutes away from the trailer reveal.
I head over to the Game of Thrones YouTube channel to watch it, so I suggest you do the same. See you on the other side!
House of the Dragon fans are demanding that something happen, everything has to happen in Season 3
Based on a wider range of comments and opinions I’ve seen online, fans just want something must happen from the start in this season’s opening episode.
In fact, whether it is in threads on r/gameofthrones and r/houseofthedragon, forums including ResetEra, and/or social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X/Twitter, people don’t want Season 3 to tread water like its predecessor did. Let’s hope its first teaser proves it doesn’t.

Okay, we’re under 60 minutes from arrival House of the Dragon season 3’s first ever footage.
What do you hope to see? More inter- and intra-family drama? How about some actual battles from the infamous and brutal Dance of the Dragons, such as the pivotal Battle of the Gullet? Let me know in the comments section right at the end of this article!
A real-life war of words
Like art imitating life, there has been quite a battle over the direction of HBO’s House of the Dragon TV adaptation has gone in.
In fact, in a blog post from September 2024, which was quickly removed, acclaimed author George RR Martin, who created Game of Thrones franchise, Ryan criticized Condal for deviating from his source material. In response, House of the Dragon‘s showrunner fired back during an interview last April, with Condal saying that Martin “just became unwilling to acknowledge the practical issues at hand in a reasonable way.”
Recently, Martin described the couple’s previously fruitful working relationship as “abysmal” and “worse than rock” (per The Hollwood Reporter). The fallout has actually been so significant that
HBO boss Casey Bloys tried to smooth things over a few weeks later, telling Deadline: “Like any good American family, I would prefer our dysfunction to remain behind closed doors. But here we are.
“I would say George introduced us to Ryan as the person he thought would be the best to create House the dragonBloys continued. “And I will say that Ryan has been an excellent showrunner and a really good partner and collaborator, so we embrace his vision and his creative choices, or we wouldn’t have done it.”
All in all, it looks like Martin’s time as a major creative consultant on this series is over. We’ll have to wait and see if Condal and company have made the right storytelling calls when Season 3 arrives later this year.
Season 3 is going to be ‘huge’ according to one of its main stars
Predictably, those involved in House of the Dragon will talk it up to create excitement among the viewers.
House of the Dragon season 2 received criticism for its creative deviations from the source material (more on this in the next post…). Despite showrunner Ryan Condal telling me ahead of last season’s release that Season 2 was “not just big dragon events,” it also lacked the grand spectacle many expected. if nothing else, let’s hope the latter is rectified in its follow-up season, with big and bloody fights.
Which actors have joined the cast of House of the Dragon Season 3?
Speaking of its cast, there are plenty of newcomers to know about going into Thrones spin-off’s next installment.
Among that number is Ormund Hightower (pictured above), who will be played by Grantchester and The Nevers alumnus James Norton. The figurehead of House Hightower and first cousin of the deposed Westerosi Queen Alicent, he will have a big part to play in the next edition of House of the Dragons.
Here’s a quick rundown of the other confirmed new characters you’ll see — and the actors who will play them — this season:
- Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Roderick Dustin
- Dan Fogler (Fantastic beasts) as Torrhen Manderly
- Tom Cullen (Downton Abbey) as Luthor Largent
- Joplin Sibtain (Star Wars: Andor) as Jon Roxton
- Barry Sloane (The Sandman) as Adrian Redfort
- Annie Shapero (Red Sky) as Alysanne Blackwood
How did House of the Dragon season 2 end?
I’m back, fully charged and ready for the main event, which – at the time of writing – is less than two and a half hours away now.
Before it arrives, remind yourself of what happened in last season’s finale by reading my House of the Dragon season 2 final explained piece. That way, you’ll have an idea of what’s going down in its sequel season and/or who its growing ensemble of characters are.
Break time!
Okay, I’m taking a quick break to refuel ahead of the trailer’s worldwide debut later today.
While I’m gone, why not read on everything we know so far about House of the Dragon season 3? It’s a good read, but then I’m biased, no… anyway, see you in a bit!
Don’t drag it out
House of the Dragon Season 3 will not be the last part either. It’s because HBO renewed both Game of Thrones prequel series for another season last November.
We also know that the fourth chapter of the program will be the last. Speaking to Deadline in January, HBO boss Casey Bloys said of House of the Dragon ends after four seasons: “Yes, that’s the idea. The idea has always been to follow the Targaryen story. If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end. So there’s a natural ending to this particular story of that Targaryen house.”
When is House of the Dragon Season 3 coming out?
But enough waffle. Aside from the trailer launch, you want to know when House of the Dragon season 3 will be released on many of the world best streaming services.
As of now, an official release date has not been announced. However, HBO has confirmed that House of the Dragon 3’s launch month, when the high fantasy show will return to our screens June 2026. Start clearing your schedule for mid-2026 to make room for its likely weekly episodic drop.
Taking to the skies earlier than expected
I’ll level with you, dear reader: I didn’t expect to see House of the Dragon’s latest trailer until Season 1 of A knight of the seven kingdoms (AKotSK) — for those wondering, it’s the other Thrones prequel series to be released – was over. Depending on where you live, its finale isn’t out until February 22/23.
Colors me as surprised as Corlys Velaryon looks above, so it House of the Dragon season 3’s first teaser will be with us TODAY. After all, it didn’t make sense to let the dust settle AKotSK‘s debut season first?
I’m not complaining by any means, by the way, more so just curious about the timing of the trailer’s final release.
