- Gemini now has app-specific conversation history
- Conversations are private, even in shared files, and keep your context in tact
- Administrators can choose whether to let you delete chats or set up a schedule for automatic deletion
Google Workspace customers will now see conversation history in the Gemini sidebar, so they can pick up where they left off or revisit previous chats without having to explain the context again.
The update, which is being rolled out, will only bring conversation history after it has been installed – Gemini will not be able to retroactively fill in missing conversations.
“History will only begin to populate when the feature is live for a specific user; conversations prior to the rollout will not be saved,” Google wrote in a blog post announcing the news.
Workspace Gemini users now get conversation history
History will be app-specific, so conversations in Docs chats stay in Docs, and so on, making it easier to stay organized across Google’s online office software. Google also emphasized that conversations are private to the individual, even within shared files.
As for admins, IT teams now get access to more deletion controls. Manual deletion is enabled by default, allowing users to delete individual chats, but administrators can also turn this off to prevent manual deletion for data retention policy compliance. Administrators can also select different frequencies for automatic deletion.
The changes are rolling out to Business Starter/Standard/Plus, Enterprise Starter/Standard/Plus, Frontline Plus, Education Plus, Teaching & Learning, AI Pro for Eduction and AI Pro/Ultra accounts.
Members of the Gemini Alpha program have already started getting the changes, with fast and scheduled release domains getting the updates at the end of March.
And as for the organizational use of Gemini, Google has also provided companies with new Admin Console reporting for monitoring AI usage. “Administrators can use this information to make decisions about AI enablement, adoption and productivity for their organizations,” Google wrote in a separate blog post.
