Sub-committee to review PTI’s demands

ISLAMABAD:

A government committee holding talks with the PTI has formed a sub-committee to discuss the opposition party’s demand to form a judicial commission to probe the incidents that took place on 9 May 2023 and 26 November 2024

A meeting of the Government’s negotiating committee was held in Parliament House under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

The participants included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Aleem Khan, Salik Hussain, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Ijaz-ul-Haq and Khalid Magsi.

The meeting reviewed the written demands of PTI. During the meeting, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar briefed the committee on each point of the opposition’s charter of demands. It was decided to continue the committee’s deliberations tomorrow.

After the meeting, the spokesperson of the governing committee – Senator Irfan Siddiqui – spoke to the media and stated that the session went well and included a detailed review of PTI’s demands. He said the meetings would continue today (Wednesday) and the following day.

The senator said no final decision has been taken on setting up a judicial commission as consultations on the matter are ongoing.

“All representatives of the seven allied parties were present at the meeting. The seven working days for talks will be fully utilized, paving the way for the fourth round of talks with the PTI,” he said.

After the meeting, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah told the media that a sub-committee had been set up to look into PTI’s charter of demands. This sub-committee will prepare the government’s response to the PTI’s demands, which will be presented in the next round of talks with the opposition.
