Prime Minister Shehbaz calls key cabinet meeting on US-Iran ceasefire

The Prime Minister will brief the Cabinet on the situation in the Middle East and provide details on the ceasefire between the US and Iran

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a meeting of the federal cabinet on Wednesday and will chair the session where he will brief members on the situation in the Middle East and provide details on the US-Iran ceasefire.

Prime Minister Shehbaz announced early Wednesday morning that Iran and the US “along with their allies have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY”.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz further invited US and Iranian “delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026 to further negotiate a final agreement to settle all disputes”.

He expressed hope that the Islamabad talks would prove to be an important milestone in achieving lasting peace, with further positive developments expected in the coming days.

Prime Minister Shehbaz further said, “Both parties have shown remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in advancing the cause of peace and stability.”

US President Donald Trump agreed to the two-week ceasefire less than two hours before his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating attacks on its civilian infrastructure.

“A great day for world peace! Iran wants it to happen, they’ve had enough! So has everyone else!” he said in his post on Truth Social. “The United States will help with traffic building in the Strait of Hormuz,” he added.
