The Chinese E -Trade Giant Temu has proven to be a strong competitor to Amazon by offering significant lower prices for a wide range of products in recent months
A new omnisend report has claimed that Temus prices are on average 40% lower for items that carefully match Amazon lists. The site is highly dependent on discounts to attract shoppers, with about 65% of its lists of Markdowns compared to 47% on Amazon, with some items that see price cuts as high as 98%.
TEMU has been given traction in budget -friendly categories such as clothing, shoes, jewelry and beauty products, offering cheaper alternatives to Amazon. The overlap in these categories is high with a 94% match rate for items listed on both platforms. Despite its aggressive discounting, it has not yet surpassed Amazon in consumer confidence and product transparency, which can limit its ability to change customer loyalty.
Price strategies and consumer view
Amazon remains dominant in confidence -sensitive segments such as car products where it consistently offers lower prices – to be about 12% cheaper than TEMU. Buyers also favor Amazon for food and drinks, where the Temus fighting frequency is the lowest.
Amazon also has an edge in electronics and household appliances, where factors such as warranties, reliable reviews and trusted customer support play a significant role in purchase decisions.
It also maintains an advantage in consumer confidence, partly because of its robust review system. The average Amazon product has about 50,000 reviews, while TEMU lists typically have only 1,500.
Researchers have found signs of possible review manipulation on TEMU, such as vanishing negative reviews and low classified products that were revived under new lists. While Amazon is also facing problems with false reviews, its enforcement measures are more transparent.
Meanwhile, many Temu lists look like closely known brands, but have changed packaging or blurred logos, which raises doubts about authenticity.
Ultimately, the Temus ability to compete with Amazon depends not only at lower prices but also on building credibility. While deep discounts attract budget -conscious customers, trust and reliability remain crucial to long -term consumer preference.
