The police authorities have decided to closely monitor the use of social media of police staff across Punjab, indicating strict departmental action against those who upload inappropriate positions or content.
In the event of lapse in monitoring at central, regional or district level, departmental actions will also be taken against the affected PR officers (benefits).
This decision was made after complaints of police officers and staff, both in uniform and out of uniform, uploaded inappropriate positions and content on social media about government institutions.
The additional IG -Investry Punjab has sent a letter to Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa and Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, as well as to RPOS, CPOS and DPOS throughout the province, including CCPO Lahore.
The letter relates to monitoring the use of social media. The letter states that SOPs for monitoring posts on social media, videos and other content through benefits at Central, Regional and District Offices have already been issued by Central Police Office’s Operations Wing.
However, police staff, both in uniform and without, have used their personal social media accounts to place very critical, illegal and inappropriate content against the state, the government and the law enforcement authorities.
As this practice of the police personnel falls during mismatch, appropriate actions will be taken by the competent authority, the letter says further.
Benefits are tasked with ensuring effective monitoring of police employees on social media in their respective districts and regions. RPOs and DPOs have been instructed to take immediate department if any police officer or staff upload inappropriate or illegal content against police or government institutions.
Similarly, the pros at central, regional and district levels have been warned that whose content uploaded by police officers and staff when officials in other ways without being noticed by Pro will be taken strict departmental action against the affected pro.
This initiative aims to prevent the abuse of social media from law enforcement authorities and secure accountability for any content that undermines the police’s board and government institutions.
The higher police authorities have emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and professionalism among law enforcement staff, both on and off -service. They emphasized that the use of social media platforms should adapt to the ethical standards expected by police officers.
The monitoring process will also include regular revisions and assessments to ensure compliance with the new rules. This proactive approach is designed to protect the reputation of the police government and secure public confidence in the law enforcement authorities’ obligation to their duties.
