- Apple’s latest ad contains Pedro Pascal and is directed by Spike Jonze
- It contains pascal -Dance through icy landscapes and lively streets
- The purpose is to promote Apple’s AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation
If you’ve ever wanted to see Pedro Pascal dancing in a red and yellow dreamland, yes, today is your lucky day. That’s because Apple has just released a new ad with the actor and directed by Spike Jonze, and the goal is to promote the company’s AirPods 4 with active noise reduction.
The place begins with Pascal leaving a cafe after apparently getting his heart broken. As he walks down a snowy street, he puts his airpods in and starts listening to El Conticinio by the Spanish musician guitarricadelafuente. When he turns on the active noise cancellation state, his surroundings change into an icy landscape filled with dancers moving in time for the music.
He is then snapped back to reality when a passerby asks him for directions on which Pascal activates AirPods’ state of transparency so he can hear the person while still listening to his music.
Then he spyes a happier version of himself across the street. This incarnation of Pedro Pascal reintroduces active noise cancellation on his AirPods and suddenly is in a bright red and yellow world. As perfect by Sam I & Tropkillaz begins to play, he dances happily through the flowering streets, apparently restored to happiness.
At the end he returns to the real world and sees his tricker himself. The two exchange comforting glances with each other before the original Pascal walks down the street.
Highlighting key features
Look at
The purpose of the advertisement is to highlight the active noise cancellation feature in Apple’s AirPods 4. This can cut background noise so you can focus on what you are listening to. These also have a transparency state that allows you to hear some external sounds so you can have a conversation and pay more attention to your surroundings.
AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation also comes with an adaptive audio function that can automatically change between active noise reduction and transparency mode without having to do anything. However, it does not look like it is in use in the advertisement as Pascal reaches up to manually change the sound mode on his AirPods throughout the short film.
The ad may feel well known to fans of Apple’s original iPod advertising that contained silhouette characters dancing while listening to music on the device.
This is also not the first time Jonze has directed an Apple ad – in 2018 he worked with the company on a short film entitled Welcome Home, made to promote HomePod.
