Islamabad:
A day after it was called on to restore the top security shudder, the federal government on Tuesday Pakistan Peoples People (PPP) President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to engage Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), who accepted his offer to convey between the ruling coalition and the opposition.
When he spoke on a private TV channel, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s adviser and senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said the government was open to restoring the parliamentary committee for National Security (PCNS) if Bilawal brought PTI to the table.
“Bilawal Bhutto is already part of the government. If he successfully conveys between PTI and the government and the negotiations produce positive results, it will be a significant success for us,” said the Prime Minister’s adviser.
Although Sanaullah referred to Bilawal as part of the government, it is relevant to note that the PPP chairman has consistently maintained that while his party supports the PML-N-LED government and sitting on the Treasury, it is not part of the federal cabinet.
The government’s steps follow Bilawal’s call for a unified front against terrorism and his concerns about the absence of central political parties, especially PTI, from the recently held high -level security meeting.
He approached PPP workers in the Punjab Governor’s house on Monday, and called on the prime minister to restore the PCN session with full political representation, and emphasized that Pakistan’s security challenges required collective responsibility.
While pushing for wider participation, Bilawal also threw opposition parties to prioritize political disputes of national security.
Direct addressing opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan urged PTI to devote internal complaints and focus on pressing national issues, including terrorism, financial instability and governance errors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
He emphasized that national security should not be held hostage to PTI’s unique demand to release his Supremo Imran Khan. He warned that Pakistan’s internal divisions were exploited by external forces and emphasized the need for national unity.
Bilawal’s location of PPP as a bridge between the government and the opposition, Bilawal claimed that his party’s unique attitude – neither fully in the government nor the opposition – enabled it to facilitate dialogue and work to solve the most important national challenges.
On March 18, the PCS had approved a unanimous statement, confirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism in all its forms and promised crucial actions against any elements threatening national stability.
The country’s top civilian and military leadership had confirmed its commitment to the first security meeting in parliament under the established PML-N-led coalition government, which was built by the most important opposition party, PTI, among others.
The Committee had repeated that no institution, individual or group acting in collaboration with enemy forces will be allowed to undermine Pakistan’s peace and stability. By expressing regrets about the absence of some opposition members, an official statement had said, the committee confirmed that consultations on this case will continue.
During the session of the camera, the military leadership had given a detailed orientation of the prevailing security situation, especially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting was informed of ongoing terrorist operations, recent threats and the state’s extensive strategy to ensure internal security.
The meeting with PCNs was called after security concerns escalated after a series of attacks, especially in Balochistan, where militants recently hijacked a passenger train and performed a suicide bombing on a security convoy.
Previously, terrorists had attacked Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 16 terrorists were killed and five soldiers were martyrated.
Also Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani-Son of Maulana Samiul Haq and head of his own fraction of Jamat Disadvantaged disadvantage (Jui-S) was among six people who perished in a recent suicide attack by Darul Uloom Haqqani in the Nowshera District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
