Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed the hope that the staff level agreement (SLA) reached the International Monetary Fund (IMF), could be the country’s last program.
“Through the IMF program, the country has achieved stability, but it must be remembered that this is a loan we will eventually free us from,” he said, while talking about the launch ceremony for PM Digital Youth Hub.
Under SLA, Pakistan and the Foundation have agreed to introduce a new carbon tax, reduce electricity stars, increase water prices and open the car sector for global trade.
The Prime Minister confirmed his commitment to equip the country’s youth with advanced technological skills and emphasized the importance of their role in driving the nation’s development and prosperity.
He assured that all necessary resources will be allocated to provide the best training opportunities, allowing young people to become productive contributors to society.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan’s youth represents both a challenge and a great opportunity. “If we give them training in information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) of modern technologies, they can significantly contribute to the development and prosperity of Pakistan.”
He said that if they got the right opportunities, the youth could play an important role in making the country one of the world’s leading economies.
He expressed his commitment to providing top quality training for youth and said the government would allocate all sorts of resources to their development by reducing other expenses.
“Youth is Pakistan’s greatest asset, and we can really serve this nation by equipping them with advanced technologies.”
Advice for Islamic ideology
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) acts as a bulwark against extremist ideologies that encourage violence, disturbs national peace and undermine the Islamic values of social cohesion and harmony.
The Prime Minister, who approached a collection of scholars, officials and religious leaders at a ceremony to mark the golden anniversary celebrations of the Council, emphasized the institution’s critical role in preserving Pakistan’s ideological foundations and at the same time ensuring progress in the modern world. He repeated the need for an approach rooted in Ijtihad (Islamic reasoning) to tackle modern challenges.
“Technological advances have reshaped our world. Islam gives us the flexibility to adapt through IJtihad, and CII is at the forefront of ensuring that our nation progresses without being lost from Islamic principles.”
He urged religious scholars to play a proactive role in guiding youth away from extremist ideologies and false propaganda. “The government stands with the religious leadership of this noble case. Extremism, hatred and division contradict the very essence of Islam that learns harmony and fraternity.”
