Several employees, including two nurses, were wounded in the strike at the Kuwaitian field hospital in Khan Younis according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health and Health Agencies, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told journalists at the general news briefing in New York.
The incident follows a separate strike on Sunday at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, which had been an important facility that treated victims of Israeli air strikes in the north.
“The latest strikes in hospitals are delighted further Gaza’s health care system,” said Mr. Dujarric.
“There are currently very few beds available in hospitals and patients are accommodated in tents.”
He added that according to the UN World Health Organization (WHO), only 21 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are still “just partially functional” and almost everyone has caused some damage to the conflict.
He also reported that, according to health partners, there is an urgent need for thousands of blood units for life -saving surgeries.
Furthermore, there are serious concerns that food reserves have reached “very low levels” as no help has entered Gaza for weeks.
Meanwhile, in the midst of the destruction, a rare relief came when humanitarian in Gaza successfully installed a backup generator at Kamal Adwan Hospital to operate a water system that produced 20 cubic meters of clean water per hour.
Mr. Dujarric repeated the UN’s call to all parties to ensure that civilians are respected and always protected and that they have the basic necessities of survival.
“All hostages must be released immediately and unconditionally, and a ceasefire must be restored and renewed without delay,” he added.
