April 24, 2015 – Ten years ago today, the day Apple Watch was launched. It changed the company’s product lineup forever and started a compelling smartwatch for the masses. In the following years, it got carriers to try to close their rings daily. I’m one of them – In fact, I’ve worn an Apple Watch for ten years ever since my original 42mm Apple Watch Sport.
While you can earn a price with limited edition today on your Apple Watch, if you’re lucky enough and manage to get to an Apple store, you can score a physical piece of history: a pin celebrating “Global Close All Your Rings Day” and it looks mighty fine.
Similar to the enamel staples, Apple distributes to personal developers at WWDC or those you can buy, and then shop in Disney Parks around the world, this is a significant pin decorated with colors and a graphic matching digital price for limited edition.
Just as the activity rings on your Apple Watch to move, exercise and stand, the design of the pin has the matching colors: reddish pink, lime green and blue. You can see that you have also crushed your goals and some too. It also has a gold pruning around the edges.
I went over to the Apple Store at the Grand Central Terminal in New York City around noon, but unfortunately there were no pins left. Apple says the pins are available in Apple stores while the supplies last and all you have to do is go up to an employee and ask for one.
While Grand Central was out, an employee was kind enough to let me see one of the pins they had secured earlier in the day. It looks pretty nice and yes, it’s a rare free thing from Apple you can score. My colleague Lance Ulanoff managed to get one from the flagship Apple Store at 5th Avenue in NYC.
Now, if you can’t do it over to an Apple store today, or if you’re a local spot, there’s already out of the founders with limited edition, fear not. Of course, you can complete Global Close All Your Rings Day Challenge on your Apple Watch and score the digital price and some custom digital treats. Think iMessage stickers that look pretty nice.
A quick look back
Road back in 2015 I was in college and I can remember eagerly awaiting a silver 42 mm Apple Watch Sport. I was stooked and excited to have secured a launch days delivery.
I screenshoted every bit of the installation process and even took some photos and videos on my iPhone 6. I remember using smartwatch around campus, my first few calls and even calling an uber from my wrist. It also helped me to become a little more active, a trend that Apple Watch still encourages me to do daily.
It’s probably the most personable and effective piece of technology I’ve used. The development of a slimmer, more powerful and even dare I say, helpful portable has been a unique thing for, ahem, see.
Ten years of Apple Watch has gone over-I went from an original to series 3, then series 4, Series 5, Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, Series 9 and finally the series 10 and Ultra 2.
I am still as excited about the future of wearables as ever, and I hope they will eventually have even more independent features. At the moment, however, Apple Watch is an excellent communication tool with some fun apps and powerful activity tracking.
For those who are wondering, I currently use a series 10 and Ultra 2 as my daily drivers.
