Although Deepseek appears as another AI -Chatbot, Deepseek represents an in -depth threat to US national security. This is the verdict of the US Congress’ latest report on the Chinese AI tool that has sent shock waves through the AI world since its release last January.
Of crucial importance, the special committee within the US Congress of Privacy and Security found how Chatbot administered Americans’ data, the use of tracking tools in its system, spreading Chinese propaganda and even connections with the Chinese army among others.
The results come as Deepseek is under fire in many countries, included the United States, which has either initiated investigations or enforced a ban on Chinese software on privacy and security.
The risk of Americans’ data
“Deepseek represents an in -depth threat to our country’s security,” the US Congress Report reads. “Other inspection reveals that the app Sifoner data back to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) creates security vulnerability for its users and depends on a model that hidden censors and manipulates information under Chinese law.”
According to the company’s privacy policy, Deepseek collects a huge amount of users’ data, “including chat history, device details and even the way a person writes,” the experts note.
It is worth noting that invasive data collection practices are not a power to the Chinese chatbot. For example, research conducted by one of the best VPN providers, Surfshark, found that Google Gemini is collecting even more of your personal data.
Nevertheless, the question here for Americans’ data is that these details are hesitant back to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) via an uncertain infrastructure linked to a Chinese telecommunications company assumed to have connections with the Chinese army – China Mobile.
In 2019, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) banned China Mobile to operate in the United States. The company was officially appointed for a national security threat three years later.
The report confirms what experts at Feroot Security also revealed back in February: Hard -coded links in Deepseeks Weblogin page that directly connect it to China Mobile.
“While the extent of data transfer remains unconfirmed, Deepseeks is raising integration with China Mobile Infrastructure serious concerns about potential foreign access to Americans’ private information,” the report reads.
The studies also found that Deepseek integrates tracking tools from Chinese Tech giants, which the US government previously marked over security concerns, including Tikkok’s parent company, bytedance, Baidu and Tencent.
“Together, these companies are a well -documented device for monitoring, censorship and data utilization that Deepseek amplifies,” experts wrote.
Worse is that researchers have found that Deepseek does little to protect the information it collects.
“For these reasons, it is clear that the Deepseek website and the app act as a direct channel for foreign intelligence collection on Americans’ private data.”
Requirements for the spread of Chinese propaganda, censorship, unauthorized use of US AI models and illegal use of limited nvidia chips have also been erected.
The committee now recommends expanding export controls and tackle risks from Chinese AI models while preparing for strategic surprise related to advanced AI.
