Islamabad:

China on Sunday put its weight behind Pakistan’s efforts to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty in the wake of brewery tensions with India after the Pahagam attack when Beijing called on both sides to show restraint.

The show about the support came from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who spoke to Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to discuss the evolving situation that arose as a result of the attack in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

“As an Ironclad friend and strategic cooperative partner throughout the weather, China fully understands Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns and supports its efforts to maintain its sovereignty and security interests,” the supreme Chinese diplomat was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry in an official reading after the telephone call with DAR.

Chinese support is crucial to Pakistan as India has threatened retaliation. Given the Indian war monitoring, all-out war or limited conflict is a real option. In case of limited or major conflict, China’s support for Pakistan will be critical of keeping India in check.

New Delhi, while considering more options, must take into account the China factor. Experts to strategic affairs believe that China would never have Pakistan suffer any setback from India, therefore, in the event of military conflict, Beijing would support Islamabad.

The two foreign ministers spoke on the basis of reports stammering from India that the hard line of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could start an attack on Pakistan after accusing Pakistan of the 22nd April attack in Pahaldam, which crushed the Narendra Modi government’s tale of restoring Normal to the disputed region.

Pakistan hardly denied his commitment and offered to participate in any “neutral, transparent and credible” study. In the telephone conversation, the supreme Chinese diplomat Pakistan’s demand for “impartial examination.”

“China supports the rapid inauguration of an impartial investigation and emphasizes that conflicts do not serve the basic interests of India and Pakistan or regional peace and stability,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.

He said Beijing hoped that both sides would exercise restraint, move against each other and work to step down tension. Wang said China closely followed the evolving situation of tension between Pakistan and India after the attack in the Kashmir region.

During the telephone call, Dar Wang briefed on the latest developments regarding tension between Pakistan and India after the deadly attack in the Kashmir region and said that Pakistan had always been resolute to fight terrorism and oppose actions that could escalate tension.

“Pakistan remains obliged to control the situation through a mature approach and will maintain communication with China and the international community,” Dar said. “Fighting terrorism is a shared responsibility for all nations, and China consistently supports Pakistan’s permanent terrorism acts,” Wang said.

A separate statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad said Dar informed Wang about the current regional situation. He categorically rejected India’s unilateral and illegal acts as well as its baseless propaganda against Pakistan.

Dar expressed deep appreciation of China’s consistent and unwavering support, and confirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to “the iron-clad Pakistan-China friendship and the common vision of a strategic cooperative partnership with all weather”.

He emphasized Pakistan’s willingness to further elaborate on bilateral cooperation across all areas. Both sides repeated their regular decision to maintain regional peace and stability, promote mutual respect and understanding and jointly oppose ensilateralism and hegemonic policies.

They agreed to maintain close communication and coordination at all levels to promote their common goals of peace, security and sustainable development in the region and beyond.

Meanwhile, DAR also spoke with UK’s foreign secretary David Lammy and informed him of the current regional situation and shared India’s false accusations, baseless propaganda and unilateral measures, including illegal decision to put Indus Waters Treat (IWT) in accordance – a clear violation of India’s international obligations.

He repeated Pakistan’s unwavering decision to defend his national interests as he continued to promote peace and stability in the region.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized the importance of dragging the situation through dialogue and peaceful solution of questions. When Dar appreciated this effort, Dar Pakistan’s readiness conveyed to participate in any independent and transparent study to ascertain the facts. Both leaders agreed to maintain active contact with regard to the evolving situation.
