The funeral beans from PML-N senator and leader of Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan, Professor Sajid Mir, were held at Iqbal College Ground with thousands present, including prominent political, religious and social figures.

The funeral was led by Sheikh-Ul-Hadith Hafiz Masood Alam, who drew a large congregation from all over the political and religious spectrum. Among those who participated were Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Maulana Asad Mahmood, Allama ibtisam Elahi Zaheer, Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi.

Professor Sajid Mir died on Saturday at the age of 86 after a heart attack, according to Associated Press of Pakistan, with reference to family sources. His death has sent shock waves throughout Pakistan’s political and religious communities.

In the wake of his passing, Central Executive Council of Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan has appointed Maulana Abu Muhammad Turab as the party’s acting leader. The party, which came from Quetta, was elected through mutual consultation, confirmed the party in an official statement.

Professor Mir, a reverential learned and respected political leader, had several degrees, including a master’s degree program in English and Islamic Studies, a bachelor of economics, and was also a candidate from the traditional Islamic Dars-Nizami reading plans.

Elected to the Senate five times on a PML-N ticket, Mir was known for his integrity and was personally invited by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to compete election-never once applied for a ticket himself.

Tribute has poured in from the political landscape. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described him as a visionary statesman and Islamic scholar and praised his consistent voice against extremism and sectarianism. “His absence has left a void in national policy that will be difficult to fill,” the prime minister said in an official statement.

Former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif also expressed deep grief and called Mir’s religious, academic and parliamentary contributions “unforgettable.”

The deceased senator is remembered for his advocate of democratic continuity and for promoting inter-sectic harmony. He leaves a legacy of public service, scholarship and unwavering dedication to his party and faith.
