The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has called to tackle the growing tensions between Pakistan and India in the wake of a deadly attack in the Indian Iregally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The attack on April 22 in Pahaldam, leaving 26 people died, has become one of the deadliest incidents in the region for over two decades.

India, without providing any evidence, has suggested that attackers had “cross -border relations”, has a claim that Pakistan has strongly denied. Islamabad has instead called for a neutral and transparent examination of the incident.

In response to the escalating standoff Pakistan quickly moved to activate diplomatic channels.

Pakistan’s permanent representative of the UN ambassador Asim Iftikhar called for an emergency situations such as Emergency meeting. The session began at. 15 local time at the UN headquarters in New York.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office earlier today, Pakistan intends to inform the Security Council of India’s “aggressive actions, repeated provocations and inflammatory rhetoric,” as it says threatens regional and global peace.

FO also highlighted India’s recent steps to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and called it a violation of international obligations.

Pakistan has called on UNSC to fulfill his mandate to maintain international peace and security by tackling this development through appropriate measures. The meeting comes in the midst of lasting international efforts to prevent further deterioration between the two nuclear armed neighbors.
