Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Wednesday that it had blocked 16 Indian YouTube news channels, 31 video links and 32 sites to allegedly spread false information and anti-Pakistan propaganda.
In a press release, the regulatory body stated that the forbidden content was “the dissemination of misleading and harmful narratives aimed at manipulating public perception and undermining national unity.”
The move comes in the midst of increased regional tensions, where PTA emphasizes its commitment to protecting Pakistan’s digital space. “This act has been taken in the light of the prevailing regional situation to protect national security,” the statement reads.
The authority warned that it would continue to monitor online platforms carefully and take firm action against any material threatening the national interests of Pakistan.
“We remain vigilant against incorrect information campaigns and will enforce compliance to ensure the responsible use of digital platforms,” added PTA.
While the names of the blocked channels and sites were not revealed, PTA confirmed that everyone was involved in promoting anti-Pakistan content. Citizens have been invited to report any suspicious material as part of broader efforts to fight online disinformation.
