Mountain View: Google on Tuesday said it improved online search with even more generative artificial intelligence as it continues to embrace AI despite concerns about the impact on its advertising-based business model.
CEO Sundar Pichai, who spoke at the company’s annual developer event, said Google’s search engine would now contain a new AI mode. He claimed that “decades of research” had fruit with this technology.
The search engine’s new AI mode goes beyond the already launched AI listings that show answers to user queries using Google’s generative AI capabilities that appear over the traditional blue links to sites and ads.
“New AI mode is a total reimagining of search with more advanced reasoning,” Pichai said, starting the conference in Silicon Valley.
“You can ask longer and more complex queries … and you can move on with follow -up questions.”
Google’s head of search, Liz Reid, described the new AI mode now available in the US as a powerful tool with advanced reasoning, multimodality and the possibilities of users to dive deeper into their searches.
“It searches all over the net and goes far deeper than traditional search,” she said.
Since the launch of AI listings at last year’s developer conference, the feature has been expanded to more than 1.5 billion users globally, according to Pichai.
“That means Google Search brings Gen Ai to more people than any other product in the world,” he added.
Google’s expansion to generative AI comes in the midst of rising competition with Openais Chatgpt, which has also incorporated search features into its popular chatbot.
Both companies quickly roll out new AI tools despite ongoing challenges, such as limiting incorrect information and finding sustainable business models. There is also no clear understanding of how this technology will shape society.
Analysts have warned that switching away from the well-known pages of “blue links” to AI-Generated Summary could significantly reduce the number of ads served in Google’s revenue current.
This has troubled online publishers, including news organizations and Wikipedia, which fears a sharp decline in web traffic. For decades, Google Search Links has served as an important entry into the Internet.
Adding fuel to the fire testified Apple Executive Eddy Cue recently by the federal court that Google’s search traffic on Apple devices fell in April – the first such fall of more than 20 years.
Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, Washington Antitrust told that Google lost grounds for AI-based alternatives such as chatgpt and confusion, causing Google’s stock prices to tumble.
Investors were further shaken when Cue said Apple can soon offer AI-powered alternatives by default search engines on its devices, which raised fears that Google’s ad revenue could be seriously threatened by rising AI competition.
This testimony came under a milestone case case where a federal judge can order Google to dispose of key operations after a previous decision declared his search business as an illegal monopoly.
‘Ultra’
At Google I/O – the company’s annual developer conference – the technology giant promotes tapes with creators of apps, platforms and online services aimed at keeping them in line with its ecosystem.
In addition to the search, the event showed several AI progress in the pipeline or already in use.
These include real-time speech translation, virtual clothing tests using users’ personal photos and AI technology that can automatically search for products and make purchases when prices fall.
Google also adds “Agent” features to the Chrome and Gemini AI app, enabling AI to perform online tasks independently. These features will first be available to pay subscribers.
The company revealed that its most advanced AI features would be offered through a new “Ultra” tab subscription plan -price for $ 250 per year. Month.
